Biography:
Ben is an Actor, Writer and Director..
After graduating from the University of Bristol (with a 1st in
Drama and English) Ben collaborated with director Chris Smith
(Creep, Severance, Triangle) on two 35mm short films which
were presented at the London Film Festival in 1999.
But it was during production for Screen 2’s award winning Junk,
that Ben had the opportunity to meet a group of recovering drug
users as part of his research. Ben has since worked with people
with mental health issues and drug dependencies and has also
supported young people in some of Britain’s most deprived inner
city areas. Many of these experiences inform Ben’s work as a
writer and his scripts are notable for their unflinching realism
and authenticity. Ben then directed Take My Heart for Channel
4's popular Coming Up series. The project concerned the lives of
disenfranchised youths in Hackney and was shot entirely on
location.
Ben's first feature film script Paperboy was shortlisted for Film
London’s Microwave scheme and came third in The Times
search for Best New Script 2008. Paperboy is now under option
with MaST. Ben is currently working on two further film scripts;
Jogger, and Jim & Jules (Script tasters available on request)
Ben is an Associate of MaST Theatre and Film and has recently
produced drama commissions for clients including HSBC, AIG,
NHS and McLaren. He has also been directing an independent
documentary about traditional Zimbabwean music and is one of
the few British film-makers currently working in the country. He
has just completed a global film project about copyright law for
Consumers International, When Copyright Goes Wrong, which
received 250,000 hits on YouTube in its first week.
We are rather pleased and tremendously excited to announce that
Ben's first play, Same Again, (a Beckett/Pinter/Raymond Carver
masterpiece no less) is ready to go.. A uniquely clever, dark and
funny writer here, catch him while you can.
