ALAN CONNOR
|
| Representing Agent: Debi Allen |
|
Biography:
Alan Connor has written about Westminster Politics for the BBC and about brothels for Channel 5. He has been praised both in Company Magazine (as an "elgible bachelor") and in the UK Parliament (for his coverage of the 2005 General Election).
Factual Writing:
Alan has had a column in the BBC News Magazine and has written features for BBC News Online.
Alan learned to write about factual things in the course of researching two post-graduate degrees at Oxford and still sometimes adopts a scholarly tone, most recently for the Think Tank Open Democracy.
Alan writes at length on music for the London News Review; he produced Channel 4's Lo-Res, a showcase of short films and he worked in development for Channel 4's News & Current Affairs.
Currently Alan is writing and co-producing Ten O'Clock Live for Channel 4 and is writing in particular with Charlie Brooker.
Fictional Writing:
Alan's first comedy writing was in a column for The Guardian. Since then, he's contributed to Channel 4 comedies and written some theatre. The Rehearsal: A One Act Play In Three Acts, co-written with Mark Chappell, had its premiere at the Transparent Theater in Berkeley, California.
Alan has also worked on Fallen, a sitcom for Channel 5, co-written with Shaun Pye and Harry Thompson.
Presenting:
Alan has acted as a BBC Correspondent, reporting for programmes including The Daily Politics and News 24.
Alan earned his presenting chops on The Word, interviewing George Foreman, getting held at gunpoint in a German sex club and generally ruining people's lives. This led to a spell reviewing pop music on The Big Breakfast and games on Five Live.
Alan has also presented many live events, including infamous 1990s "multimedia film and cabaret club" Cinergy. He occasionally acts, for example as Alan Pooter in Channel 4's The Pooters.
Alan occasionally DJs, most recently alongside Rob Da Bank for Amnesty International. He has been a soundtrack consultant, an IT consultant and a website designer. He has presented many live quizzes and gameshows. He is fair-to-middling at cribbage, and he plays the Appalachian dulcimer.
