- Truly high quality (THE GUARDIAN)
Tom Bell's comedy career began during his time at university when he started to write and perform with Cambridge Footlights. He has since gone on to become a prolific sketch and stand up comedian, in increasing demand for TV and radio as well as being a unique and exciting performer on the live circuit.
As a solo performer he has carved out an impressive CV, supporting the likes of Chris Addison and Lee Mack on their national tours, performing at numerous festivals including Glastonbury, Latitude, and Green Man.
At the Edinburgh Festival he has been part of the sell out 'Comedy Zone' show at the Pleasance and has performed four solo shows on the Free Fringe, the first of which (where he interviewed tapes of himself he made aged 7) was a Scotsman newspaper 'Hot Pick' for the festival and has subsequently played to packed out crowds ever since in shows The Guardian described as 'truly high quality'.
Tom is a regular MC at many nights in London and has performed for all the big promoters on the UK circuit including Avalon, Off The Kerb, Just The Tonic etc. As one half of double act 'Tommy and the Weeks' he has had three further hit Edinburgh Fringe shows at the Pleasance and performed alongside the likes of Rob Brydon and Graham Norton at huge charity events. 'Tommy and the Weeks' have had two TV pilots and a radio pilot in production leading them to be described by the Guardian as 'a future great British double act'.
Tom is a published writer of fiction and essays, has given talks at Tate Britain, directed award-winning fringe shows and written and performed for numerous TV and radio sketch shows. In 2011 Tom filmed the lead role in Rough Cut produced pilot 'Dismissed' and played a number of roles in BBC2's 'Dick and Dom's Funny Business'. He was also comissioned to write several comedy sketches for Radio 4 and won critical acclaim with his Edinburgh solo show 'Tom Bell Begins'.
Following his appearance in Comedy Lab's 'Anna & Katy' on Channel 4 last year, Tom is currently writing sketches for their upcoming show and will also play a variety of characters across the series. Further TV credits in 2012 include 'Episodes' on BBC2, a pilot with Rise Films called 'Plebs' and 'Big Bad World', an Objective Productions pilot for Comedy Central.
