Edinburgh Fringe Favourite, Piff the Magic Dragon is an award-winning stand up act, combining delightfully deadpan charm and stunning magic.
He has appeared in the West End as part of La Soiree (formerly La Clique), embarked on a sell-out run in Australia, and is currently on a fifty-date UK theatre tour as part of An Evening of Burlesque, selling over 30,000 tickets at venues including the O2 and Blackpool Grand. Piff's recent appearance on Penn and Teller: Fool Us was an instant hit, going viral and racking up half a million views on YouTube in three days. He returns to Edinburgh this summer with his new show Last of the Magic Dragons.
A staple of the UK cabaret scene, Piff is a former Hackney Empire New Act of the Year finalist and has performed at The Comedy Store. He has supported some of the biggest names in comedy including Simon Amstell, Jessica Hynes and Stephen Merchant. In 2010 he was handed his own residency, Brunchtime at Piffanys, at Circus in Covent Garden.
Piff's debut show, Piff-Tacular, scooped Buxton Fringe Festival's Best Comedy award and broke the Edinburgh Free Fringe record for highest box office take in a single night. He returned the following year with PIFF-TACULAR 2: Get Rich or Die Trying at Just the Tonic, awarded 'Top Three Picks of the Fringe' by The One Show, BBC.
Every hero needs a sidekick, and it was during 2009 that Piff acquired Mr Piffles, the World's First Levitating Chihuahua. Inseparable ever since, little Piffilicious now earns his kibble charming damsels up and down the country and relieving himself on any microphone stands that get in the way.

Piff is the creation of John van der Put, The Magic Circle Close-up Magician of the year 2011 and an award-winning contemporary magician for the past fifteen years. The hit of the party, according to Sir Ian McKellen, John is one of the youngest magicians ever to lecture at The Magic Circle, and was crowned IBM Close-Up Champion in 2009. He has also created magic for David Blaine, Heston Blumenthal and the National Theatre.
Reviews for Piff the Magic Dragon
The Metro, London, 2011
"Piff the magic dragon was a particular stand out act, blurring the line between magic and surreal comedy. Dressed in a dragon suit and with a Chihuahua in tow, Piff was a million miles from the slick, schmaltzy, rolling-up-the-sleeves style of magic that seems a little out dated now, and his routine would have been as welcome on a small stage at a comedy festival as it would a Vegas stage."
ArtsHub, Perth, 2011
"If theres one show that is genuinely side-splittingly funny and lives up to its hype this Fringe World season, it's Piff-Tacular 2: Get Rich or Die Trying - so go see it!"
Stage Whispers, Melbourne, 2011
"The magical masterpiece of John van der Put... funny and forlon... Piff stands out not because of the gimmick of the dragon costume, but because he is, in a word, Piff-tacular."
Australian Stage, Melbourne, 2011
"Van der Put is a fast-thinking, witty comedian, obviously able to keep an audience on its toes and respond to the nuances of an individual crowd on any given night. He's fun and irreverent and the show has a great blend of stand-up comedy and magic."
Edinburgh Spotlight, 4 Stars, Edinburgh, 2010
"A great line in dry, self-deprecating and offbeat humour¦ This particular journo was laughing too hard to take any notes, which seems perhaps as good a recommendation as one could give."
Broadway Baby, 4 Stars, Edinburgh 2009
"Standing room only... A superb hours entertainment, and possibly the best free show on the Fringe."
The New Current, 4 Stars, Edinburgh 2009
"An amazing show delivered with class, wit, and true originality, go and see this show your life depends on it!"
Three Weeks, 4 Stars, Edinburgh 2009
"A guilty pleasure... van der Put develops a sweet rapport with his audience, leading to raucous applause, though not before Piff's grand finale."
