Biography:
Sophie Fletcher is one third of comedy trio The History Girls. Winners of the Audience Award at the Co-filmic festival in Manchester 2011 and finalists in the Laughing Horse New Act Competition 2010, The History Girls have recently filmed sketches for BBC online with Objective Productions (Peepshow) who they are also currently also developing a sitcom with. They have worked with directors Clare Thomson and Cal McCrystal and regularly perform gigs in London and around the UK.
Sophie studied at Edinburgh University then trained as an actor at Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Since then she has been writing and performing in her own shows, first with her theatre company, People Can Run, and now with The History Girls. As a director she shot her first short film, 'Happy Birthday' in 2009 which has played in festivals worldwide including in Canada, Japan and Poland. She has also directed plays in Edinburgh and London and was a finalist in the JMK Young Director's Award 2007.
She was recently seen in Series 2 of Pete vs. Life and is developing a character comedy show with writer/director Ben Lewis.
"The best sketch show I've seen in 9 years" Ben Farrell
Objective Productions on the History Girls "an appealingly daft wit... a sort of Bronte Python"
Chortle on the History Girls "Fletcher, gorgeous and rubber faced, is Lucille Ball with an Essex accent, somehow managing to light up the stage with the most economical of work." (Scotsman)
"Playing the fool takes skill, and in Kieran Fay and Sophie Fletcher, People Can Run has got itself a proper pair of clowns, with impeccable timing" (Time Out)
"Of particular delight is the work done by Fletcher—she gives a touching portrayal of a young woman who, try as she might, can't really connect emotionally with other people or even herself." (NYTheatre.com)
"Sophie Fletcher gradually shifts into a superb performance as Nikki, the invisible office girl who dreams of the perfect Caribbean holiday, and in the end just can't take it any more" (The Scotsman)
